Filipino people around the globe mourn for the sudden death of the respected Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
I first learned about the bad news from Albay Governor Joey Salceda's updates on his facebook account. My first reaction was shocked but at the same time hopeful that he will be able to survive the tradegy.
Robredo, along with his Aide, the only one who survived the tragic incident, and the two pilots were onboard the Piper Seneca PA 34-200 aircraft from Cebu bound to Naga City. Unfortunately, due to engine failure, the pilot had to make an emergency landing at the Moises R. Espinosa Airport in Masbate City, however, before it had to reach the airport, the airplane crashed off the shore of Masbate on August 18, 2012 (Saturday at around 5pm). Only after three days of intensive search and rescue operations, the body of Robredo had been recovered.
I heard a lot of good comments about Robredo being the great man that he was and most specially being a true servant, and no doubt why many Filipino felt so bad about his untimely death.
I get so affected, maybe because I once had the chance to met him in person. It was in 2011, in their humble home in Naga City. I must admit, I got starstrucked as if he was a celebrity. Kidding aside, he resembled a face of Edu Manzano, for me. On my way back to Legazpi for almost 2hours travel from Naga City, that face I cannot forget, maybe because I saw a sincere leader in him, a very soft spoken person, a good man. And so as soon as I arrive home, I was happy telling my father who is a policeman about seeing Mr. Robredo. I also told him, that their house in Naga is a reflection of how simple man he was - the gate is widely open as if telling everyone is welcome, very far from the highly secured mansions of some politicians here in the Philippines.
Whatever happened, we can only trust God, for He has a reason why it had to happen. We can say that all best in life somehow had to end, sad ending for Mr. Robredo though. But We just have to remember all the good things he has done for the country and for the people, somehow to ease the pain. His memory will forever linger on.RIP Sir Jess Robredo.
